In addition, the rigid surface of a panel affords painters more control over their paint application, whether working with a brush or palette knife. They’re ideal for everything from thin glazes to thick impasto. Colors tend to be brighter on panels, and a well-prepared panel allows for paint gradation and tiny details to become more visible, unlike paint on a canvas where the texture of the canvas is seen through the paint layers.
