sentimental, I wanted something of my dad’s studio in my own—a physical and spiritual connection to a place and a man who has given me so much,” says Bouldin. “So, three bricks from my dad’s front walkway have been embedded in the fireplace surround (see photo 2). In addition, when we were working on this studio, an 80-plus-year-old pecan tree came down in my dad’s studio yard. Bouldin has developed his own successful portrait-commission business. The energetic “do-it-yourselfer” has additional projects planned. “After a year in my new space, I still have several items to make, including a larger worktable with more storage, a proper model stand and a new, larger stationary palette. My dad keeps asking for his old one back,” he laughs. “I don’t return his calls!”
